Vacuum Them Weekly
For the most part, you won’t have to take your draperies down to clean them. Rather, you’ll simply have to give them a quick vacuuming. Before you jump headlong into this chore, you need to make sure you know what to do to get the best and least-damaging results. To do that, make sure you’re using minimal suction and a soft-bristled attachment
Be Careful about Machine Washing
In many instances, you may be able to use a washing machine to clean your draperies. Then again, you may NOT be able to do so. If you’re not sure, just refer to any tags that came attached to your draperies. Even if those tags indicate you can use machine washing, be sure you use the following settings:
- Gentle cycle
- Cool or lukewarm water
- Mild detergent
When in Doubt, Dry Clean
If your draperies don’t have tags or if their existing tags have fallen off, you can always defer to an effective cleaning method: dry cleaning. If your drapes contain stitched-in pleats or other ornamentation, it’s a clear bet that you need to invest in dry cleaning rather than machine washing.
